DENIS CARR FROM SOUTH CAVE SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON YOUNG GIRL IN HULL

In April 2012, a disturbing case unfolded involving Denis Carr, a 51-year-old man from South Cave, who was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl. The incident occurred while Carr was acting in the capacity of a babysitter, a role that should have been associated with care and protection but was tragically exploited in this case.

Following a thorough investigation, a jury at Hull Crown Court found Carr guilty of attacking the young girl. The court proceedings revealed that Carr had committed two counts of indecency against a child, charges that he was convicted of after a detailed trial. However, he was acquitted of five other counts of indecent assault, and the jury also cleared him of attacking three additional girls under the age of ten. Despite the acquittals, the conviction for the two counts of indecency was enough to secure a significant prison sentence.

Detective Constable Katrina Shipley, who was involved in the case, expressed her support for the verdict and the sentence. She emphasized that Carr had shown no remorse throughout the investigation process. In her words, “Denis Carr has begun his sentence for assaulting a young child. His victim can now begin to rebuild her life knowing he is where he deserves to be. Carr has shown absolutely no remorse throughout the investigation and has put the victim through a trial.”

Carr was arrested in April of the same year after the young girl involved in the case raised the alarm, prompting police intervention. The judge, David Tremberg, handed down the sentence, reflecting the severity of the crime and the need for justice. As part of his punishment, Carr was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, a measure aimed at monitoring and preventing further offenses.

Detective Constable Shipley expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating that she hoped the conviction and the lengthy sentence would encourage other victims of sexual abuse to come forward. She praised the bravery of the young girl who reported the incident and urged any other victims to seek help. “I am very pleased the jury saw through his lies and found him guilty of two counts of indecency against a child. I would like to thank the victim for her bravery in coming forward and would urge any further victims of sexual offences to come forward. We are committed to pursuing and prosecuting child sex offenders,” she added.

Members of the public or anyone with information about sexual offences are encouraged to contact Humberside Police’s public protection team at 101 to report any concerns or incidents.
