DELENA WELLS SHOCKS CLEVEDON WITH SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON VULNERABLE TEENAGERS IN THE 1980S

In a case that has spanned over three decades, Delena Wells, a woman from Clevedon, was sentenced to a total of eight years and six months in prison for a series of serious sexual offenses committed in the late 1980s. The crimes took place at her former residence, Old Rose Cottage, located on Norton’s Wood Lane in Clevedon, North Somerset.

These disturbing incidents involved two young victims, both teenagers aged between 13 and 15 at the time. The victims, who were particularly vulnerable due to their age, endured repeated abuse at the hands of Wells, who was then in her early 40s. The court heard that Wells exploited the trust placed in her by the teenagers, engaging in manipulative and predatory behavior.

One of the victims, a boy, was lured into her home where Wells encouraged him to drink alcohol and live without rules. She watched a pornographic film with him before subjecting him to indecent assault. The abuse was not a one-time event but continued over many months, during which Wells maintained a controlling and abusive relationship with the boy. Instead of offering support or guidance, she threatened him with police trouble if he ever disclosed the abuse, effectively silencing him through intimidation.

The second victim, also a teenage boy, was assaulted during a visit to Wells’ cottage in Clevedon. He was given alcohol during this visit, which left him vulnerable and unable to resist the assault. This particular incident has haunted him into adulthood, leaving lasting emotional scars.

Following the sentencing, His Honour Judge Horton commended the investigating officer, Detective Constable Stephen Milkins, for his diligent work in bringing Wells to justice. Despite the gravity of her crimes, Wells showed no remorse or regret during the proceedings, further highlighting the severity of her actions.

Wells, now aged 72, faces the consequences of her long-standing misconduct, which has left a lasting impact on her victims and the community of Clevedon. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior, regardless of how much time has passed since the offenses occurred.
