CARLISLE MAN ADMITS CHILD ABUSE IMAGE OFFENCES, FACES SENTENCING
A Carlisle man named Decan Sloan, 27, formerly residing at Graham Street, has admitted to eight criminal offences related to possessing and sharing indecent child images and extreme pornographic material. These offences occurred between Boxing Day, 2023, and January 19 of the previous year.
Sloan confessed to downloading 135 Category A child abuse images, which are considered the most serious, along with 66 Category B images and 45 Category C images.
Additionally, he possessed 168 extreme pornographic images, including explicit content involving animals, specifically people having sex with dogs.
Sloan also admitted possessing a prohibited image of a child and three counts of distributing indecent images across categories A, B, and C.
Prosecutor George Shelley described the offences as "so serious that the Crown Prosecution Service viewed the district judge’s sentencing powers to be insufficient." The case was adjourned for sentencing at Carlisle Crown Court on April 21.
Defense lawyer Chris Toms stated Sloan was "extremely overwrought" and that he was currently couch surfing on Buchanan Road, Carlisle.
The judge informed Sloan that he would be placed on the Sex Offender Register, with the duration depending on the eventual sentence, and granted bail until the sentencing hearing, requiring Sloan to report to police twice weekly and for a Probation Service report.
