DEAN O'NEIL AND SHOCKING GROOMING PLOT IN NOTTINGHAM AND DERBYSHIRE

A man identified as Dean O'Neil from Nottingham has been implicated in a disturbing case involving the attempted sexual grooming of a child.

The incident unfolded when O'Neil arranged to meet what he believed was a seven-year-old girl at a hotel in Derbyshire, specifically booking a room at the Travelodge in Swanwick.

This arrangement was part of a calculated plan to engage in sexual activity with the young girl, who, in reality, was an undercover police officer posing as her father.

The court proceedings revealed that O'Neil had engaged in an online communication with the officer via the social media platform Kik, where he discussed the details of the meeting.

During these exchanges, he negotiated a payment of 200 pounds along with a Burger King meal for the girl, detailing the specifics of the sexual acts he intended to perform.

Additionally, he expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming encounter, indicating a troubling level of anticipation.

Furthermore, O'Neil purchased and brought gifts such as makeup, pajamas, and clothing, which he intended to give to the child.

These actions were identified by authorities as part of a grooming process, aimed at enticing the young girl and building a false sense of trust.

The prosecutor, Mark Achurch, emphasized that these plans involved careful scheming about the logistics of the abuse, as well as explicit discussions about what was permissible during the encounter.

The police's investigation culminated when officers visited O'Neil's address on March 30, just two days before the scheduled meeting.

As law enforcement officers arrived to arrest him, O'Neil tried to make an escape through the back door of his home.

However, he was swiftly apprehended by the authorities.

A search of his residence uncovered the gifts he had bought for the girl, which further confirmed his intent.

O'Neil, who resided on Casson Street in Ironville, pleaded guilty in court to attempting to meet a girl under the age of 13 for the purpose of sexual grooming.

Despite having a criminal record consisting of 16 previous convictions spanning 33 offences, none of those were related to offenses of this nature.

During the court hearing, Gareth Gimson, representing O'Neil, requested permission for his client to address the court directly.

This request was granted, and from HMP Nottingham, O'Neil delivered a remorseful message, stating, "Can I just say I feel deeply ashamed at myself for writing those disgusting messages.

It is not like me to act this way, I was brought up better.

I have brought shame on myself and my family, and I will not commit a crime like this ever again." The judge, Recorder Balraj Bhattia, condemned O'Neil's actions, stating, "What you did was with some enthusiasm.

You discussed when, where, and how much you would pay to sexually abuse what you thought would be a seven-year-old girl.

You booked a Travelodge in Swanwick, you discussed exactly what could and could not be done to her.

You went on to explain that you were sexually aroused and how much you were looking forward to this particular encounter." In addition to the three-year prison sentence handed down, O'Neil was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, legally restricting his activities related to children, and he was also placed on the sex offender register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.

The case highlights the serious dangers posed by online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from predators operating under false pretenses.
