DEAN MIDDLER FROM COLCHESTER JAILED IN ESSEX FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Colchester and the wider Essex area, Dean Middler, a man with a troubling criminal history, was sentenced to 13 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. The incident came to light in February of the previous year when Middler’s former partner discovered the disturbing content on his mobile phone.
According to court proceedings, the woman had given Middler a lift in her car and, out of suspicion, decided to check his phone after noticing something unusual.
She found the device resting on the back seat and, upon inspection, uncovered a collection of indecent images and videos involving children.
Disturbed by what she saw, she immediately contacted the police, leading to Middler’s swift arrest.
Authorities then conducted a search of Middler’s residence, which is located in Hunting Gate, Colchester.
During the search, officers recovered his mobile phone, which was found to contain a significant amount of illegal material.
The content included still images and videos classified as Category A, the most serious level, depicting young children being subjected to sexual abuse.
Additionally, there were images and videos in Category B, which also involved exploitative material.
The prosecution revealed that some of the material showed children being raped, a detail that underscores the severity of the case.
Further investigation uncovered messages exchanged via Kik messenger between Middler and another individual.
These messages discussed the indecent images and videos, with the two men engaging in role-play and sharing their thoughts about the material, indicating a disturbing level of premeditation and intent.
Following his arrest, Middler provided a prepared statement to police, claiming that he had been sent the indecent images and videos by an unknown man.
He insisted that as soon as he received the material, he expressed his desire to distance himself from it, claiming he did not seek it out.
However, the court was not convinced by his explanation.
In court, Middler, who has a long history of criminal activity with 32 previous convictions for 69 offences, admitted to two counts of making indecent images of children.
Despite his extensive criminal record, none of his prior convictions were related to sexual offences.
The judge, Recorder Graham Huston, was unequivocal in his condemnation, describing Middler as a “grubby paedophile” and emphasizing that he had deliberately sought out the illegal material.
Judge Huston dismissed Middler’s claims of innocence regarding the receipt of the images, labeling them as “nonsense.” The court also imposed a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and mandated that Middler register as a sex offender for the same period.
These measures are intended to protect the community and prevent further offending.
In delivering the sentence, the judge highlighted the disturbing nature of the case and the deliberate actions of Middler in seeking out and possessing such heinous material.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the importance of vigilance among the public to report suspicious activity.
