DEAN HARPER'S BRUTAL CRIME IN PRESTON: JEALOUSY AND VIOLENCE LEAD TO NIGHTMARE FOR GIRLFRIEND
In May 2022, a disturbing case of domestic violence unfolded in Preston, where Dean Harper, aged 33, subjected his girlfriend to a series of terrifying and aggressive acts driven by his intense jealousy and obsessive behavior.Harper's actions began with a particularly cruel assault that left his partner unable to hear properly for several days.
He physically pinned her against a wall and attempted to trap her inside their shared home, creating an environment of fear and control.
Despite the initial assault, Harper convinced her to stay, but his violent tendencies persisted, fueled by alcohol and unchecked anger.
The situation escalated further when Harper's violent behavior was inadvertently exposed.
During an argument, the woman accidentally called a friend, and her desperate pleas for him to leave were overheard, revealing the ongoing abuse.
Additionally, a neighbor heard Harper threatening to kill her if he was forced to vacate their residence, adding a chilling layer to the case.
Prosecutor Beth Pilling outlined the details during a court hearing at Burnley Crown Court.
She explained that Harper had initially offered the woman a place to stay in his Preston home after she left a previous relationship.
The two started as friends, gradually developing into a romantic relationship.
At first, their relationship appeared to be a happy one, especially considering the woman’s past trauma.
However, Harper’s jealousy soon took over, leading to controlling and invasive behaviors.
Harper would prevent her from maintaining contact with male friends and would frequently search her phone for information, which he would later use to confront her.
In 2021, after attending a barbecue together, Harper accused her of flirting with other men, a claim that was not new but still deeply upsetting.
The argument intensified when Harper followed her around the house, and she eventually asked him to leave.
The situation turned violent when Harper threw a punch directly at her face, striking her with a clenched fist to her ear.
The force of the punch was so severe that her glasses were knocked to the floor.
Harper initially appeared stunned but then denied any serious injury, claiming he had barely touched her.
His anger did not subside, and he continued shouting at her, refusing to let her leave.
At one point, he ripped the keys from her hands, breaking multiple nails and causing bleeding fingers.
After this outburst, Harper went to sleep, having thrown her keys into the loft, leaving her trapped inside.
That night, the woman managed to escape and stayed with a family member.
The following morning, she intended to leave Harper for good.
However, he convinced her that he would stop drinking, promising that this would resolve their issues.
Despite his assurances, the pattern of violence and control had already inflicted significant trauma, and the case highlighted the dangerous extent of Harper’s abusive behavior in Preston.
