DEAN BRERETON AND CHELSEA NEELY FROM WARRINGTON SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC ANIMAL NEGLECT AND ABUSE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Warrington, Dean Brereton and Chelsea Neely, both residents of Sinclair Avenue in Orford, have been found guilty of severe neglect and mistreatment of their pet dog, Ace. The incident, which garnered significant attention from animal welfare organizations and local residents alike, highlights the tragic consequences of prolonged neglect.Brereton, born around 1988, and Neely, born August 1992, were charged with multiple offenses related to the suffering of Ace, a dog they owned. The charges stemmed from their failure to seek timely and adequate veterinary care for the animal, which was suffering from a range of serious health issues. These included limb weakness, a significant loss of appetite, weight loss, and an overall underweight condition. The dog also suffered from incontinence and a soiled coat, which contributed to his immobility and led to a condition known as flystrike, a severe and often fatal infestation of maggots.
The RSPCA, which investigated the case, revealed that Ace endured long-term suffering from March until May 2020. During this period, the dog was left untreated despite evident signs of distress and illness. Between May 4 and 8, 2020, Ace's condition worsened, with the dog suffering from flystrike and worsening limb weakness. The neglect was so severe that it was believed Ace had to be euthanized on humane grounds to end his suffering.
In addition to the case involving Ace, there are allegations that Brereton and Neely are responsible for the death of a second dog. However, as of now, no prosecution has been brought against them regarding this second incident.
Both individuals faced sentencing in connection with the case. They received an 18-week prison sentence and were disqualified from owning any animals for a period of 30 years. This harsh penalty underscores the seriousness with which the justice system views animal cruelty and neglect.
Further background information indicates that Dean Brereton is a self-employed landscape gardener, operating under various business names including D&N Allscapes, Best Gardens & Property Maintenance Warrington, and currently, Luxury Landscapes. Despite his professional pursuits, his involvement in this case has cast a shadow over his reputation.
It is also noted that Brereton and Neely have since separated and moved on with their lives. Chelsea Neely, now known as Chelsea Jayne Hunter, is reported to be married and has started a new chapter away from her past association with Brereton. The case remains a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the devastating impact of neglect.
