November 2015 Pervert accessed ‘depraved’ images of children – No prison A Devon computer user has been ordered to receive help from the probation service after he accessed ‘depraved’ images of children during late night browsing sessions. David Williams claimed he could not remember downloaded a movie and still images which showed the worst type of child abuse while using the internet on his own. The unemployed man was said to have been isolated and depressed at the time when he moved from watching adult online porn to downloading child images. Williams, aged 48, of Portland Street, Ilfracombe, admitted six counts of possessing or making indecent images and one of possessing extreme images. He was jailed for ten months, suspended for two years and ordered to receive sex offender treatment as part of a two year supervision order by Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, at Exeter Crown Court. He was also ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years and made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which restricts his internet use and contact with children. The judge told him his activities had indirectly encouraged very serious abuse of children. He said:”The material which you downloaded and kept to view was most appalling and depraved.” Mr Nigel Wraith, prosecuting, said police acting on intelligence raided Williams’ home on June 2 last year and seized a laptop and a desktop on which the images were found. He told the officers he used adult porn sites which threw up pup-ups and viruses which contained unwanted child images which he deleted. He had a movie showing child abuse in the most serious category and four movies showing extreme pornography. Mr Wraith said:”He told the police he accidentally accessed material and eventually became curious about the images and downloaded them. He said he downloaded some images while he was drunk and could not remember doing so.”
