David Webb

Yatton Keynell Sexual Abuser

October 2012 Yatton Keynell man found guilty of sexually abusing boy A paedophile who repeatedly raped a vulnerable boy starting when he was just ten years old has been warned he faces a lengthy jail term. And David Webb, who has two previous convictions for similar matters, could even receive a life term for his latest offending. The 68-year-old from Neeld Close, Yatton Keynell, denied carrying out the systematic abuse on the youngster just like he has done twice in the past. But for the third time in 18 years a jury convicted him of sex offences against young boys. Webb showed no emotion as the verdicts were read out by the foreman of the jury at Swindon Crown Court on Friday. But as the judge remanded him in custody awaiting sentence Rosemary Webb, his wife of 15 years, screamed from the public gallery ‘Liars. They are all liars they are’. She stormed out of the courtroom slamming the door and continued shouting in the public area before leaving, even though the jury had yet to decide on one of the charges. Mrs Webb, 46, was not there when the last guilty verdict was returned and the case was adjourned to Friday November 9 for sentence. Webb pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape of a child under 13, two of sexual assault of an under 13, causing a child to engage in sexual activity and to watch sexual activity. He was convicted of all but the allegation that he got the boy to watch sexual activity, which was alleged to be pornography. Webb and his wife had befriended the family of the victim. Between the spring of 2008 and January this year he took the boy out on day trips and bike rides and also abused him when the lad visited his home. The victim, who has a number of difficulties, made disclosures to teachers and social workers revealing what had happened to him. After the verdicts Robert Bryan, defending, asked for his client to be sentenced immediately but the judge insisted he had a pre-sentence report. Webb received two years at Winchester Crown Court in 1994 after a jury ruled he molested a ten-year-old boy. In 1999 he got four years at Southampton Crown Court for sexual offences of a 16-year-old who was immature for his age. On both occasions he pleaded guilty and, like the current trial, his wife gave evidence in his defence. And on both occasions he later admitted he had carried out the offences complained of when confronted by the probation service. Adjourning the case Judge Euan Ambrose said: “You have a long standing tendency to commit offences against young boys: serious offences at that. “This is the third time you have been convicted of such offences following a trial. You are somebody who can’t be trusted to behave himself in a law abiding way. “You face inevitably a long prison sentence now: I am going to have to consider sentences for public protection even now you are a man of advanced age. “Inevitably a significant custodial sentence will follow. These offences were not committed so very long ago. “I am ordering a pre-sentence report but the purpose of that report is address the question of dangerousness: the threat that you pose to children in future.”
