DAVID THOMAS SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN FLEET

In a significant and lengthy courtroom proceeding, 77-year-old David Thomas, a resident of Aldershot Road in Fleet, was sentenced to a decade behind bars after being found guilty of the sexual assault of a young girl. The conviction was handed down at Salisbury Crown Court on Friday, 29 April, following a trial that lasted an entire week. The court's decision also included a verdict of not guilty regarding a separate charge of indecent assault.

The criminal acts for which Thomas was convicted took place over a span of several years, specifically from 1984 to 1988, in the area of Farnborough. It wasn’t until 2020 that these allegations were formally reported to police authorities, leading to an investigation that ultimately culminated in the arrest and prosecution of Thomas.

Detective Constable Michelle Carrig, part of Operation Amberstone North, expressed her thoughts on the sentence. She stated, “I hope this sentence has provided the victim with some element of closure, knowing that Thomas has been sentenced for a very long time.” She also acknowledged the victim’s bravery in coming forward, remarking, “Thomas committed harrowing crimes against the victim and I would like to praise her for showing courage by coming forward and contacting the police.”

Furthermore, Detective Constable Carrig emphasized the importance of taking such cases seriously. She encouraged other individuals who might have experienced similar crimes or know someone affected by sexual abuse to reach out to the police, providing a contact number: 101. This plea underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to address and resolve historical and ongoing cases of sexual violence against minors and vulnerable individuals.
