SHEFFIELD PAEDOPHILE DAVID THOMAS CAUGHT BY UK PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN SHOCKING INCIDENT
In July 2022, a disturbing case unfolded in Sheffield involving the arrest of a man identified as David Thomas, aged 47, residing on Stradbroke Road. The incident was brought to light when a vigilant paedophile hunter group, Cobra UK, successfully exposed Thomas after he engaged in a sexualized online conversation with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl.
According to court proceedings held at Sheffield Crown Court on July 21, the group’s member, acting as the decoy under the alias Ruby, initiated contact with Thomas on a social media platform.
During their exchanges, Thomas revealed disturbing intentions, claiming he was sexually-starved and sending explicit images and videos of his genitals.
The conversation took a further sinister turn when Thomas discussed the possibility of having sex with the decoy, suggesting that she could take a morning-after contraceptive pill to avoid using a condom, indicating a clear intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
Prosecutor Kevin Jones detailed that Thomas’s behavior was deeply troubling, especially considering the decoy’s age.
Judge Rachael Harrison addressed the court, emphasizing the gravity of the situation: “This was a decoy pretending to be a 13-year-old.
When she said initially she was nearly 13 and then said she was 13, you might have thought you would have said to yourself, ‘how does she not know her own age?’ But not even that stopped you behaving in the way you did.” Further complicating the case, another member of Cobra UK made contact with Thomas, this time posing as an adult.
After engaging in a sexual conversation and making arrangements to meet, the group orchestrated a sting at the Jurys Inn on Eyre Street, Sheffield.
When Thomas arrived, six members of Cobra UK detained him, physically restraining him by grabbing his arms and escorting him away from the hotel.
They then questioned him and promptly called the police to handle the situation.
Thomas was charged and subsequently pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate sexually with a child and attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a minor, with the offenses dating back to February 2019.
In sentencing, Judge Harrison imposed a two-year community order, which includes participation in a sex-offender treatment program and a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Additionally, Thomas was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for a period of five years, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
