HUCKNALL BROTHERS SENTENCED TO SUSPENDED JAIL FOR KIDNAPPING INNOCENT BOY
An innocent 14-year-old boy was kidnapped by two brothers in a Nottinghamshire town in a case of mistaken identity.
The child was grabbed and bundled into the back of a black Nissan car in Nabbs Lane, Hucknall, before being driven off at speed.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that David Stevenson, 51, of The Common, Hucknall, along with his brother Neil Stevenson, 41, of Dawlish Close, Hucknall, took the boy, believing he had stolen an e-scooter belonging to a young family member – but they had the wrong person.
During the incident, David and Neil repeatedly threatened the boy, including saying they would chop off his legs if he did not tell them where the scooter was.
As they drove him from Hucknall towards Bulwell, they continued to threaten him.
Eventually realizing they had the wrong individual, the brothers drove the boy back to Hucknall and released him.
Before letting go, one of the brothers stated, ‘you better find out who stole the scooter or we will kill you.’ The court review noted that the kidnapping, which was captured on CCTV, occurred on April 24.
Once the Nissan Qashqai involved was traced to the brothers’ address, both pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 12-month prison sentences, suspended for two years, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187 each.
Nottinghamshire Police Detective Constable Ryan Lambert, who led the investigation, expressed relief that the offenders faced justice: “A child being kidnapped in broad daylight is every parent’s worst nightmare and so I am pleased David Stevenson has been dealt with by the courts.
By taking the law into their own hands, they put an innocent child through an extremely frightening ordeal – one that will stay with them for a very long time.
I hope the conclusion of the court proceedings gives the child and their family a sense of closure and that they can now begin to put what happened behind them.
