DAVID SCHOFIELD JAILED IN HULL FOR REPEATED SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION FAILURES
A convicted sex offender from Hull, David Schofield, has been sentenced to prison after deliberately evading police and neglecting his legal duty to register his whereabouts.Despite previous warnings and opportunities to comply, Schofield’s persistent non-compliance has culminated in a significant custodial sentence, marking a decisive end to his repeated breaches.
Schofield, aged 47 and currently remanded in custody, had a history of criminal behavior related to sexual offenses.
His initial conviction was on January 17, 2020, when he was found guilty of sexual assault.
On that day, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years, a requirement that he repeatedly failed to meet.
The court heard that Schofield had previously been spared immediate imprisonment for similar offenses but continued to neglect his statutory duty to inform police of his current address every seven days.
His failure to do so was flagged again on July 20 of the previous year, when he appeared in court for breaching notification requirements.
After his release from custody, Schofield informed police that he was residing on Hardy Street in Hull, but this information was later found to be false.
On November 16, police community support officers encountered Schofield in Hull city centre.
During this interaction, he claimed he was of no fixed address.
He was instructed to visit the police station to update his details and was reminded of his obligation to do so weekly.
However, Schofield failed to comply with this directive.
His non-compliance was further evidenced when he was arrested on December 30 for failing to notify authorities and for other unrelated offenses.
Subsequently, he appeared before Hull Magistrates' Court on January 4, where he pleaded guilty to charges of assault and criminal damage, committed on December 12.
He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison for these offenses.
