DAVID SALLIS FROM BLACKBURN SENTENCED FOR YEARS OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN PRESTON
In September 2023, a disturbing case involving the sexual abuse of a young girl has come to light, highlighting the ongoing issues within the justice system regarding the protection of victims. The victim, who is now an adult but cannot be named due to legal restrictions, bravely addressed the court to share her harrowing experience and to voice her concerns about how the justice system handles cases of sexual abuse.
Her statement was read aloud in Preston Crown Court, where details emerged about the prolonged nature of her suffering.
She recounted that she was subjected to abuse over a period of five years, beginning when she was just eight years old and continuing until she reached the age of 12.
During this time, the perpetrator, David Sallis, who was approximately 27 years old at the time, committed multiple heinous acts against her.
Sallis, a resident of Whalley Banks in Blackburn, was found guilty of five counts of rape and assault by penetration.
He had previously pleaded guilty to these charges during an earlier hearing, which paved the way for the sentencing.
The court heard that the abuse took place at various locations, including in Bury and Peterborough, indicating a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior across different areas.
Prosecutor Francis McEntee detailed the severity of the crimes, emphasizing that the abuse was both lengthy and sustained, representing the worst form of sexual violence.
He pointed out that the pre-sentence report failed to fully grasp the gravity of Sallis’s actions, which added to the victim’s sense of injustice and frustration.
Despite the passage of time, the victim’s fear prevented her from reporting the abuse immediately.
It was only years later that she found the courage to come forward and seek justice.
Her testimony and the evidence presented in court led to Sallis’s conviction and subsequent sentencing.
Judge Mark Brown sentenced David Sallis to a total of 14 years and three months in prison.
Additionally, Sallis was placed under a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in effect until further notice, to prevent any future offenses.
He is also required to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from potential harm.
This case underscores the importance of supporting victims and ensuring that justice is served, even many years after the crimes have been committed.
It also highlights the need for ongoing reform within the justice system to better recognize and respond to the needs of victims of sexual abuse.
