DAVID ROBINSON AND SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BRIDGEND
A man from Bridgend, David Robinson, has been convicted of exposing himself and performing sexual acts in front of a vulnerable young girl, with the incidents taking place on two separate occasions.The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of these acts, which have left a lasting impact on the victim.
The sentencing hearing was held at Cardiff Crown Court, where Robinson, aged 46, was found guilty on June 23 of two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
The offences involved Robinson masturbating in front of the young girl on two separate occasions, acts that the judge described as “appalling.” These actions have profoundly affected the victim, who was of primary school age at the time of the incidents.
During the courtroom proceedings, the prosecution presented a victim statement supplied by the young girl, who expressed her ongoing distress and fear.
She stated that she now “didn’t want to be anywhere on [her] own” and often feels “alone” since the traumatic events.
The statement further disclosed that she has sought counselling to cope with what happened but has found it difficult to speak openly about the incidents.
Additionally, she reported feeling uncomfortable around men and has experienced sleep disturbances, including repetitive nightmares, which have severely impacted her daily life.
Robinson, who resides on Coity Road in Bridgend, has a criminal history related to exposure offences committed in 2008 and 2010.
His lawyer, Hashim Salmman, requested the court to consider the time that has elapsed since those earlier convictions.
The defense argued that Robinson posed a low risk of reoffending in general, but acknowledged a medium risk of potentially committing future sexual offences.
The lawyer also highlighted Robinson's background, noting that he had endured domestic violence during his childhood and has a history of alcohol abuse, psychiatric treatment, and other health problems.
Robinson has been unemployed for the past four years.
The presiding judge, Wayne Beard, emphasized the seriousness of Robinson’s actions.
He described the offending as “significant” and noted that there was evidence of a “persistent pattern” of behavior, especially when considering Robinson’s previous convictions.
The judge expressed his deep concern about the trauma inflicted on the young girl, stating that such actions are deeply upsetting.
As a result of his conviction, Robinson was sentenced to a prison term of two years and three months.
In addition to his imprisonment, several restrictions were imposed to prevent further harm.
Robinson was subjected to an indefinite restraining order, preventing him from contacting the victim or approaching her.
He is also required to register as a sex offender for life and abide by a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
The court also ordered Robinson to pay an £181 statutory surcharge as part of his sentencing.
