DAVID PORTLOCK AND THOMAS PINCHIN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN BRADFORD, BALHAM, AND HEBBURN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, two men have been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in the sexual exploitation of a vulnerable teenage boy in the Bradford district. The proceedings, which took place at Bradford Crown Court, revealed the extent of their heinous actions and the disturbing evidence found at their respective residences.Thomas Pinchin, aged 35, who traveled from London to commit his crimes, was found guilty of engaging in degrading and perverted sexual acts with the 13-year-old victim. The court heard that Pinchin, residing on Weir Road in Balham, had initiated contact with the boy through online chats in early 2011, during which they discussed the possibility of sexual encounters. Subsequently, Pinchin traveled to Leeds, where he met the boy and watched a Harry Potter film together before the sexual activity occurred in a cinema toilet designated for disabled individuals.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Pinchin possessed an extensive collection of over 18,000 child abuse images on his computer, including 775 illegal videos featuring children as young as four. Some of this material was classified at level five, indicating the most severe category of abuse images. The police also uncovered a stash of child pornography at his home, which Judge Jonathan Rose described as “vile” and capable of inspiring others to commit similar acts of abuse.
Pinchin pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including grooming the boy, engaging in sexual activity with him, and possessing a significant number of child abuse images. His defense attorney, Katherine Blackwell, expressed remorse, stating that Pinchin was ashamed of his actions and that his life had been irrevocably altered by the revelations. Judge Rose condemned the material found on his devices, emphasizing that the images depicted acts of torture and sadism against children, which would horrify the public.
Pinchin’s victim was described as a deeply troubled and confused child who had already been subjected to abuse after seeking out adult men online. The judge noted that the boy’s vulnerability made him particularly susceptible to Pinchin’s manipulations.
Meanwhile, in Hebburn, Tyne and Wear, lorry driver David Portlock, aged 32, was sentenced to 20 months in prison for his role in grooming the same boy. Portlock, of Elmfield Road, was found guilty of inciting the boy to engage in sexual activities, meeting him after establishing trust through online communication, and committing 19 offenses related to making indecent images of a child. The court heard that Portlock and the boy exchanged explicit images and met in early 2011, walking together in the Bradford area. However, no sexual acts took place during their meeting.
Authorities discovered that Portlock possessed 485 indecent images of boys aged between six and sixteen. His defense lawyer, Graeme Cook, highlighted that Portlock had a previously good character and had never physically harmed the boy. Nonetheless, Judge Rose emphasized that Portlock’s manipulation had caused irreparable damage to the teenager’s childhood and emotional well-being.
Both cases underscore the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the devastating impact such crimes have on victims and their families. The sentences handed down reflect the severity of the offenses and serve as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and in communities across the UK.
