October 2003 Man who raped children is jailed A MAN who raped and indecently assaulted children, and threatened to kill one of them if she told, was jailed for 11 years. David Payne, 63, of Ruislip Court, Raleigh Close, Ruislip Manor, admitted three specimen charges of rape, attempted rape, two charges of indecency and one other serious sexual offence. Jailing him at Isleworth Crown Court last Thursday, Judge John Crocker said it was “an appalling case – absolutely appalling”. Prosecutor Andrew Lloyd-Eley told the court the offences, which involved four children, ranged from indecency right the way through to full rape. The court heard how one of the victims was told that if she told anyone he would kill her, and anyway, no-one would believe her. The girl told the police she felt so dirty and worthless while the attacks were taking place that she later tried bathing in bleach to try to cleanse herself. Another of Payne’s victims was made to perform a sex act and pose in lewd positions while he pretended to take photos. Defence counsel Brian Reece said “He understands that the sentence will be a long one.” He added his only mitigation is that he pleaded guilty and spared the four victims from re-living their appalling experiences. Payne must remain on licence after his release until the end of the term. He will also have to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
