DAVID PAPWORTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN MAIDSTONE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Maidstone, a local man named David Papworth has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl. The incident occurred during a family gathering on June 14 of the previous year, when Papworth, then 29 years old and residing on Waterloo Street in Maidstone, engaged in inappropriate conduct towards a sleeping child.

According to reports, Papworth had been drinking in the garden area of the family home before he re-entered the house once everyone else had gone to sleep. The following morning, the young girl confided in her mother, revealing that Papworth had entered her room and touched her in a manner that was clearly inappropriate and deeply upsetting. Her brave disclosure prompted immediate action from her family and authorities.

After the incident was reported, Papworth voluntarily handed himself in to the police. He was subsequently charged with sexual assault, a charge he initially denied. However, during the trial, the evidence presented was sufficient to establish his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The court found him guilty of the serious crime, and he was sentenced on Friday, February 26, 2016.

Detective Constable Emma Crombie commented on the case, emphasizing the significance of the victim’s courage. She stated, “David Papworth took advantage of a child who was far too young to understand the gravity of what was happening. However, she was able to tell her mother and from that we were able to gain evidence from a very brave young girl. I want to thank the victim and her family for the courage to go through what must have been a very traumatic experience, but that led to a man being rightly convicted for a very serious crime. He can now be prevented from causing harm to others.”
