DANGEROUS CHILD SEX OFFENDER DAVID OGILVIE FROM CARLISLE ESCAPES PRISON BUT FACES STRICT CONDITIONS

In a case that has shocked the community of Carlisle, 63-year-old David Ogilvie has been convicted of possessing and making indecent images of children, including some classified as the most serious Category A images.

The incident came to light after police conducted a search at his residence on Housesteads Road in Carlisle in November of the previous year.

During the investigation, authorities uncovered that Ogilvie had been downloading these illicit images over a span of several years, raising serious concerns about his activities and the safety of children depicted in the material.

Ogilvie’s criminal record includes multiple charges related to child exploitation images.

He admitted to three counts of creating indecent photographs of children and one count of possession of such material.

The police found a total of 161 illegal images on his devices, with some falling into the most severe Category A classification, indicating the highest level of harm and exploitation.

These images were collected over a period that extended from April 1, 2013, to January 28, 2016, highlighting a sustained period of offending.

At Carlisle Crown Court, the judge was informed that Ogilvie, who is married and previously considered to be of good character, expressed deep remorse for his actions.

He was described as being “disgusted with himself” and had voluntarily sought specialist help to address his behavior.

Despite the gravity of the charges, the court took into account his remorse and personal circumstances during sentencing.

Judge Peter Hughes QC delivered a sentence that, while not imposing immediate imprisonment, included a 16-month jail term suspended for two years.

Additionally, Ogilvie was ordered to complete a community rehabilitation requirement and pay a fine of £5,000.

The court also mandated that he sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration, restricting his activities and monitoring his behavior to protect the public.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and judicial authorities in Carlisle to combat child exploitation and ensure offenders are held accountable, even when prison sentences are suspended.

Ogilvie’s case remains a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for continuous safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
