January 2004 Man jailed for abducting girl A 46-year-old man who abducted a girl of 14 has been jailed for three-and-a-half years. David Milner, of Victoria Street, Gillingham, Kent, admitted abduction and five charges of having sex with an underage girl. The father-of-five also pleaded guilty to five charges of committing an indecent act with someone below the age of consent. At Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday Milner was sentenced to three-and-a-half years for the abduction charge. He was given three years, to run concurrently, for unlawful intercourse with a child under the age of 16 and three years for indecency with a child, also to run concurrently. Milner was also put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years after his release and banned from ever working with children. Milner and the schoolgirl, who cannot be named, sparked a nationwide manhunt when they disappeared in August from their homes in Gillingham, Kent. The pair had shared a tiny room in a cheap Blackpool bed and breakfast hotel where he told staff the 14-year-old was his toy girl. The twice-married father of three then fled North with the girl as the net tightened. A lone policeman eventually found them sleeping in a Highlands lay-by in a car they had bought two days earlier.
