EDINBURGH MAN DAVID MACKENZIE FROM KILTARLITY CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A distressing case has come to light involving a young man from Edinburgh, identified as David Mackenzie, who was found to have downloaded and shared child abuse images during 2012.The incident was brought to the attention of authorities after the victim’s mother discovered inappropriate images on her son’s computer.
The mother, while searching for a film, stumbled upon these disturbing files, which led her to report her son to the police.
According to court proceedings held in Inverness, Mackenzie, who was 18 at the time and residing near Inverness, had engaged in the downloading of these illicit images in 2012.
The court documents reveal that he not only possessed these images but also took the step of sharing them with others via Skype, a popular messaging platform, during February of that year.
This act of distribution further compounded the severity of his actions.
At present, Mackenzie is 22 years old and now lives in Edinburgh.
During the court hearing, he admitted to both possessing and distributing the images, which, according to the evidence, were mostly at the lower end of the obscenity scale.
Despite the relatively less severe nature of the images, the court took the matter seriously.
Sheriff David Sutherland, presiding over the case, decided to defer sentencing until January to allow for the preparation of background reports.
Additionally, Mackenzie has been placed on the sex offenders register, a measure that underscores the gravity of his offenses and the ongoing monitoring that will follow.
The case highlights the ongoing concerns regarding the possession and sharing of child abuse material, and the importance of vigilant reporting and legal action to combat such crimes.
