DAVID LLOYD FROM WREXHAM JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST TEENAGER

In September 2006, a former businessman from Gresford, near Wrexham, was sentenced to a three-year prison term after being convicted of serious sexual offences committed against a 13-year-old girl. David Lloyd, aged 67, was found guilty of systematic abuse, a crime that has left a lasting impact on the young victim and her family.

During the proceedings at Mold Crown Court, it was revealed that Lloyd had spent four decades working in various industries, establishing a career that once earned him respect and recognition. Despite his professional background, Lloyd’s actions have overshadowed his previous achievements, leading to his conviction and subsequent punishment.

Lloyd pleaded guilty to the charges, acknowledging his involvement in the abuse. However, he expressed confusion and a lack of understanding regarding his motives, stating that he could not comprehend why he had committed such acts against the teenager. His defense attorney, Owen Edwards, emphasized Lloyd’s complex background, noting his membership in the Chartered Institute of Managers and his role on the executive committee of the British Business Association in East Africa.

It was also highlighted that Lloyd was multilingual, which underscored his otherwise accomplished profile. Unfortunately, his health had deteriorated significantly since 1999 when he was diagnosed with heart problems, and he suffered a stroke in 2000. These health issues affected his speech and memory, although he had managed to make some recovery.

Prior to sentencing, Lloyd had prepared himself for the possibility of incarceration, accepting that he deserved punishment for his actions. His legal team suggested that he might be eligible for a suspended sentence, given his age, health, and remorse.

Judge Nicholas Woodward delivered the sentence, condemning Lloyd’s conduct as utterly reprehensible. The judge emphasized the profound and damaging impact of Lloyd’s actions on the victim and her family, describing the case as extremely grave. He stated, “The damage that you had done cannot properly be assessed,” underscoring the severity of the crime.

In his remarks, Judge Woodward took into account Lloyd’s guilty pleas, his remorse, his age, and health status, as well as his previously good character. The judge also noted that Lloyd would now be considered a “social pariah,” a status that would make his life outside prison particularly difficult. The custodial sentence was designed to reflect the gravity of the offences and the lasting harm caused, ensuring that Lloyd would face the consequences of his actions in a manner fitting the seriousness of the case.
