DAVID LIVESLEY BUSTED IN BEBINGTON AND BIRKENHEAD CHURCH LOFT SEX SCANDAL

In September 2012, a disturbing case emerged involving David Livesey, a music teacher at St John Plessington College located in Bebington. The case revealed that Livesey engaged in a series of illicit sexual encounters with a teenage girl within the premises of a church and in the nearby areas of Birkenhead and Prenton. The gravity of his actions was brought to light during a court hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, where the details of his 11-month affair with a 16-year-old student were thoroughly examined.

David Livesey, aged 27 at the time, faced serious charges after admitting to ten counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor while occupying a position of trust. His career and personal life have since been shattered by these revelations. The court heard that Livesey had joined the school in 2009, and the inappropriate relationship with the student, who is now 18, began the following year. The relationship was characterized by a series of clandestine meetings and sexual encounters that took place both in the school environment and in the church's loft in Birkenhead.

Prosecutor Henry Riding detailed how the affair started after the girl, who was then 16, received a suggestive comment from Livesey on a social media platform, Facebook. The relationship escalated quickly; within a month, during a classroom encounter, Livesey reportedly placed his hand on her leg and inside her blouse. During this encounter, he also kissed her and expressed disbelief at his own actions by saying, “I can’t believe I am doing this.”

The court was informed that the girl confided in two friends about her relationship with Livesey, revealing that a boy she referred to by a different name was actually the teacher. She later contacted Livesey via webcam and confessed to having sexual encounters with him in various locations, including woods near Storeton and the loft of St Joseph’s Catholic Church on North Road in Birkenhead, where Livesey served as an organist. During one of these loft sessions, the pair narrowly avoided being discovered by a parish priest, who was quickly misled when Livesey claimed the girl was a relative.

The girl admitted to having engaged in full sexual intercourse with Livesey on up to six occasions, as well as performing sexual acts on him. These encounters reportedly took place in diverse locations, including Storeton Woods and within the school itself. She also disclosed that they exchanged explicit photographs and, when she believed her teacher’s wife was not present, they made telephone calls to each other.

The relationship was eventually exposed when her two friends, troubled by the secret, informed school authorities that she was “in love with the defendant and was head over heels with him.” The girl later confessed to the affair after Livesey’s wife sent a Facebook message to one of her friends, dismissing the allegations as “nothing but lies.”

Throughout the proceedings, it was evident that Livesey was deeply infatuated with the girl, although the relationship deteriorated over time, leading him to cease communication. His defense attorney, Kathryn Johnson, stated that Livesey had “lost his career and lost his marriage” and described the affair as “one of genuine affection.”

Wearing thick-rimmed glasses, Livesey, who resides on Waterpark Road in Prenton, appeared in court and listened as Judge David Aubrey, QC, sentenced him to 14 months in prison for the serious breach of trust. The judge also imposed a lifelong ban on him working with children and ordered him to register as a sex offender for ten years, marking a significant and serious consequence for his actions in the Bebington and Birkenhead areas.
