September 2012 Bebington school music teacher jailed after church loft sex sessions with schoolgirl A MUSIC teacher at St John Plessington college in Bebington had secret sex sessions with a schoolgirl in a church loft and his school. David Livesey, 27, was jailed for 14 months yesterday after Liverpool crown court heard details of his 11-month affair with a 16- year-old pupil in his care. Livesey – whose marriage and career is now in tatters – had already admitted 10 counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust between 2010 and 2011. The court heard Livesey joined the school in 2009 and his relationship with the student – now 18 – started the next year. Henry Riding, prosecuting, revealed the teenager said the affair began after Livesey made a suggestive comment on a photo of her wearing a prom dress on social networking site Facebook. Mr Riding said a month later in a classroom he put his hand on the teenager’s leg and inside her blouse and while kissing her said “I can’t believe I am doing this”. The court heard she confided to two friends that a boyfriend she referred to by a different name was actually Livesey. In view of one friend, she contacted Livesey by webcam and later confessed to having sex with him in woods and on a loft floor in St Joseph’s Catholic Church in North Road, Birkenhead, where he was an organist. Mr Riding added that during one loft sex session the pair were almost discovered by a parish priest – but after quickly getting dressed Livesey fobbed him off by saying the girl was a cousin. The student said she had full sex with Livesey on up to six occasions and also carried out sex acts on him, including in Storeton Woods and “in the school”. In interview, she also said the pair sent each other explicit pictures of each other and “when she knew his wife was not there exchanged telephone calls”. The court heard Livesey and the student were rumbled when her two friends, “clearly troubled by the secret”, told school officials she was “in love with the defendant and was head over heels with him”. Mr Riding added the student confessed to the affair when Livesey’s wife sent a Facebook message to one of her friends saying the allegations were “nothing but lies”. Mr Riding said Livesey was clearly “besotted” with the girl, although towards the end of the relationship it “degenerated” and he stopped responding to her. Kathryn Johnson, defending, said Livesey had “lost his career and lost his marriage”. She said his affair with the student was “one of genuine affection”. Wearing thick-rimmed glasses, Livesey, of Waterpark Road, Prenton, looked straight ahead as he was sentenced. Jailing him for the “grave breach of trust”, Judge David Aubrey, QC, barred him from working with children for life and placed him on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
