DAVID KING FROM WELWYN GARDEN CITY SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING TWO YOUNG BOYS
In a case that has shocked the community of Welwyn Garden City, David King, a 55-year-old resident of Timber Croft, was sentenced to nine months in prison after being found guilty of multiple sexual offences committed against two young boys. The offences, which spanned several years, date back to the late 1980s and involved disturbing acts of inappropriate contact.King appeared before St Albans Crown Court on Monday, 17 September 2012, to face sentencing after a trial that concluded earlier that summer. The court heard that he was convicted of a total of 11 separate offences related to his interactions with the two boys, who are now adults. One of the victims was approximately 11 years old when the abuse began, and the misconduct continued into his teenage years. The second victim was around 13 years old at the time of the offences.
The court proceedings revealed that the nature of the offences included fondling, inappropriate touching, kissing, and cuddling, all of which took place during the victims' childhood and adolescence. The court emphasized the severity of the crimes and the lasting impact they have had on the victims, who have since grown into adulthood.
Judge John Plumstead, who presided over the trial, was informed of King’s personal circumstances, including his health issues. King, a married man, has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes since 1994 and suffers from various health problems. It was noted that he is now virtually housebound, which may have influenced the sentencing decision.
In addition to his prison term, King was subjected to strict conditions upon release. He is prohibited from being in the company of any child under the age of 16 unless accompanied by another adult. Furthermore, he has been disqualified from working with children in any capacity. His name will also be added to the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and preventing any future contact with minors.
