ROTHERHAM SEX OFFENDER DAVID HODSON SENTENCED FOR ABUSING THREE 12-YEAR-OLD GIRLS OVER 30 YEARS
In a case that has shocked the community of Rotherham, a 72-year-old man named David Hodson has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against three young girls, all aged 12.The crimes, which spanned over three decades, have left lasting scars on the victims and prompted a stern response from the judicial system.
David Hodson, who was formerly residing on Station Road in Rotherham, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court to face the charges.
He pleaded guilty to multiple serious offenses, including indecency with a child, three counts of sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13, and inciting a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity.
The court heard that these offenses took place over a period exceeding 30 years, highlighting a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior.
During the sentencing hearing, Recorder Richard Wright KC described Hodson as a “calculating and determined sexual predator,” emphasizing the calculated nature of his crimes.
The judge also issued restraining orders to prevent Hodson from contacting the victims and imposed a lifelong sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
This order explicitly prohibits him from having any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, aiming to protect potential future victims.
In a powerful statement, the judge remarked, “It’s not an overstatement to say you’ve ruined the childhood of each of these vulnerable young people,” addressing Hodson directly.
The court was moved by the personal statements of the victims, which detailed the profound and ongoing impact of Hodson’s abuse.
These accounts revealed the deep trauma inflicted upon them and the ways in which their lives have been forever altered.
Hodson’s crimes came to light after the victims, demonstrating remarkable courage, decided to report him.
Prior to this, he had attempted to silence them by warning them not to disclose what had happened, telling one of the girls that “it wouldn’t matter” if she came forward because “no-one would believe her.” Despite his efforts to intimidate them, the victims found the strength to speak out, leading to his arrest and subsequent guilty plea.
During the court proceedings on September 11, 2023, Hodson was made to listen to the detailed accounts of the abuse through the victims’ statements.
The judge described Hodson’s actions as “depraved sexual attentions,” and the victims’ testimonies painted a picture of prolonged suffering.
One of the victims shared how the trauma from Hodson’s abuse continued to affect her long after the incidents, manifesting in suicide attempts, self-harm, anxiety, nightmares, and reliance on self-medication.
She also revealed that her mental health struggles led her to be signed off from school and prevented her from sitting her GCSE exams.
Despite these hardships, she expressed her determination to rebuild her life, stating, “I’m determined to not let what he did ruin any more of my life.” Another victim described her ongoing efforts to move forward, acknowledging the need for counseling but admitting that she still finds it difficult to discuss her experiences.
A third victim described the damage inflicted by Hodson as “irreparable,” noting that many issues stemming from the abuse have persisted into her adult life, including post-traumatic stress disorder and body image problems.
Hodson, who is currently in custody at Rotherham General Hospital, was formally charged and convicted of multiple serious offenses, including indecency with a child, three counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13, and attempting to incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity.
His sentencing reflects the gravity of his crimes and the profound impact on his victims, as the court seeks to deliver justice and protect others from similar harm.
