DAVID GRIFFIN AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MELKSHAM AND SWINDON

David Griffin, aged 51, has been convicted of multiple serious crimes involving the exploitation and abuse of children in the town of Melksham. The court found him guilty of creating indecent images of minors, engaging in voyeuristic activities on three separate occasions, and sexually assaulting another young victim. Despite his insistence on denying the allegations, the jury at Swindon Crown Court reached a unanimous verdict of guilt after a thorough trial.

The sentencing took place on a Tuesday, with Judge Jason Taylor presiding over the case. Griffin, who resides on Grasmere in Melksham, was identified as the perpetrator of a disturbing series of offenses. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Griffin had installed nearly undetectable covert cameras to secretly film three children, an act that demonstrated a calculated and predatory approach. In addition to the filming, Griffin was also found to have sexually abused another young person, further compounding the severity of his crimes.

One of Griffin’s victims, who chose to speak out in court, described the profound and lasting impact of the abuse. He stated, “This is not me, and I never used to be like this… what David has done to me has impacted every part of my life.” His words underscored the deep emotional scars inflicted by Griffin’s actions. Two other victims also submitted impact statements, each detailing how the abuse had adversely affected their mental health and overall well-being.

During the proceedings, Griffin’s defense attorney, Andrew Stone, argued that his client’s punishment should be considered carefully, suggesting that “prison will go so much harder for him than it would for a young man.” Mr. Stone also claimed that Griffin had expressed “deep remorse” for the harm caused to the victims. However, Judge Taylor was quick to dismiss these claims, remarking, “I can’t say remorse jumped off the page at any stage [during trial].”

Mr. Stone responded by emphasizing that Griffin “regrets causing these men pain and suffering” and is aware of the lasting effects his actions have had on them. Nonetheless, Judge Taylor described Griffin’s abuse as “planned, systematic, and targeted,” criticizing the defense’s arguments as “laughable if it wasn’t so serious.” The judge highlighted that Griffin’s crimes involved significant planning, including efforts to delete evidence using cleaning software, which demonstrated a clear intent to conceal his activities.

Considering the gravity and premeditated nature of the offenses, Judge Taylor sentenced Griffin to five years and six months in prison. He also made it clear that Griffin’s time behind bars would not be easy, stating, “Prison will not be an easy time for you… I cannot accept you were remorseful.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Griffin will be registered on the sex offenders’ register for life. He was also subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts him from having unsupervised contact with males under the age of 18 and prohibits him from acquiring or using video monitoring equipment in any premises.

The investigation was led by Detective Sergeant Jen Jeffcoat-Marsh, who expressed her appreciation for the bravery of the victims. She said, “I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of the victims in taking the hugely difficult step of reporting these crimes to us and supporting our investigation into Griffin. We recognize how challenging it must have been for the survivors to help bring their abuser to justice. Whilst nothing can take away the emotional impact of the abuse that they suffered, I hope that seeing Griffin jailed today brings them some comfort.”
