DAVID GREIG AND HIS SHOCKING CRIMES IN PERTH

A deeply disturbing case has emerged involving David Greig, a man from Perth who has been identified as a convicted paedophile with a long history of sexual offences.

Under the pseudonym 'Dangerous Dave,' Greig’s actions have shocked the community and prompted serious legal consequences.

Greig’s latest breach involves his illegal possession of an Xbox gaming console, despite being under a strict court order that explicitly prohibits him from owning any devices capable of accessing the internet.

This order, known as a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SOPO), was issued to prevent him from reoffending, given his extensive history of sexual misconduct.

The 46-year-old man recently admitted to breaching this order, which had been in effect for nearly ten years.

His breach was discovered during an investigation into his online activities.

Police reports confirm that they found evidence on his personal computers and electronic devices at his residence in Perth, which included chat logs and images that are deeply disturbing.

Specifically, Greig communicated with a 13-year-old boy via the social media platform Telegram, exchanging explicit selfies.

The prosecution revealed that these exchanges involved indecent verbal communication and the sharing of graphic images.

The police also uncovered horrifying visual material, including images of babies being subjected to sexual violence—images that are not only illegal but also deeply traumatic.

The investigation was triggered when authorities received a tip-off about suspected illegal downloads on Greig’s laptop and phone.

Subsequent searches confirmed that indecent images and videos, some depicting children as young as six months, had been downloaded and stored on his devices.

During his appearance at Perth Sheriff Court for sentencing, Greig accepted responsibility for his actions.

He had previously admitted to grooming a young boy, with whom he engaged in sexually explicit conversations last November.

Court documents disclosed that Greig had also downloaded and possessed indecent images spanning a period from July 14 to November 6, 2024.

Legal proceedings revealed that Greig’s conduct extended to setting up a Skype account under the alias 'Dangerous Dave,' through which he traded hours of horrific child abuse footage via the internet.

This level of depravity further underscores the seriousness of his offenses and the danger he poses to society.

In addressing the court, solicitor David Sinclair highlighted that Greig was recommended for the 'Moving Forward: Making Changes' rehabilitation program, which aims to assist offenders in reforming.

However, Sinclair also pointed out that Greig’s previous SOPO had expired in April 2024, prior to the discovery of his recent abusive online activities.

He described Greig’s earlier offences as contact-related, whereas his latest breaches involved communication that was semi-contact—indirect but nonetheless harmful.

Sinclair also noted that Greig’s troubled childhood, including a childhood road accident that reportedly went undiagnosed, contributed to his current psychological state.

He suggested that the offender struggles to establish healthy relationships and find his place in society.

Sheriff William Wood condemned Greig’s actions, emphasizing that his past convictions could not be ignored.

The sheriff stated, “Unfortunately for you, there is no getting away from your previous convictions.

This is the third time you’ve appeared in court concerning sexual offences, and therefore, there is no real alternative but to impose a custodial sentence.” He further stressed the gravity of possessing indecent images of children, noting that such material perpetuates ongoing abuse and exploitation.

The sheriff expressed concern over Greig’s continued engagement in sexually explicit discussions online, especially with an individual he believed to be a child.

Greig was sentenced to serve four years in prison, with an additional five years on license following his release.

He will remain on the sex offenders register and will be subject to the SOPO indefinitely, ensuring heightened restrictions and monitoring.

Authorities and community members are reminded of the importance of vigilance in monitoring online activity, especially given the heinous nature of Greig’s crimes.

His case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by sex offenders with undetected and ongoing criminal behavior, and the critical need for strict enforcement and rehabilitation measures.
