In a significant development in a long-standing case, David Goddard, a 37-year-old man from Leicester, was finally linked to a brutal sexual assault that took place in Blackpool back in 1996. The attack involved a 15-year-old girl who was targeted in a dark alleyway, an incident that remained unresolved for nearly six years until recent forensic advancements provided new leads.

Goddard, residing on Chester Close in Leicester, was arrested last January after scientists utilized cutting-edge DNA analysis techniques to connect him to the scene of the crime. This breakthrough came after years of scientific limitations had prevented investigators from making a definitive link. The case was brought before Preston Crown Court, where Goddard faced charges of attempted rape and wounding with intent.
