DAVID EVANS FROM PENPEDAIRHEOL FOUND GUILTY OF INDECENT ASSAULT ON BOY IN CARDIFF

In a case that has spanned over a decade, David Evans, a 46-year-old former school bus driver residing in Penpedairheol, has been convicted of indecently assaulting a young boy. The conviction was handed down after a lengthy legal process that included two separate trials at Cardiff Crown Court.

During the initial trial held last summer, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, resulting in a mistrial. Evans, who is known to be a practicing Jehovah’s Witness and lives in Gelliron, Penpedairheol, vehemently denied the allegations made against him by a man now in his twenties. The accuser claimed that Evans had assaulted him when he was a child, but the details of the incident remained contested during the proceedings.

Following the mistrial, the case was retried, and this time, a second jury found Evans guilty of five separate charges related to the indecent assault. The court has scheduled his sentencing for the upcoming month, where he will learn the extent of his punishment.

During the first trial, the complainant revealed that he had only recently confided in his parents about what had happened. He explained that he decided to speak out after he saw Evans in a car with a small boy, which prompted him to come forward. The young man expressed remorse and said, “If the same thing happened to somebody else, I couldn’t have lived with myself.”

Following the allegations, Evans was summoned to a meeting with elders from his Jehovah’s Witness congregation in Aberbargoed. During this meeting, he maintained his innocence, asserting that the accusations were false. The case has garnered significant attention in the local community, highlighting the ongoing issues of abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
