HEREFORD SCOUTMASTER DAVID BUCKLE JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In March 2021, a disturbing case unfolded involving David Brian Buckle, a scout leader from Hereford, who was ultimately sentenced to prison after a series of serious allegations related to indecent images of children. The case came to light when authorities executed a warrant at Hereford Radiators, a trading estate in Hereford, on November 23.
The police investigation revealed that Buckle was involved in the creation, possession, and distribution of explicit images involving minors, spanning from August 2019 to November 2020.
During the raid, officers informed the staff that their company computers had been used to upload indecent images of children to the internet.
When asked to surrender their mobile devices, Buckle, who was present at the scene, appeared visibly distressed.
Witnesses reported that he turned pale and began trembling when confronted.
Despite being asked for his mobile phone, which was located upstairs in a separate room, Buckle refused to hand it over.
Instead, he attempted to break the device in an apparent effort to destroy evidence.
Subsequent forensic examination of Buckle’s two mobile phones and a laptop uncovered a troubling collection of material.
His browsing history and stored files contained multiple images and videos classified into various categories, all involving children aged between three and thirteen.
Specifically, authorities found nine Category A photographs and 25 Category A videos, nine Category B photographs and 36 Category B videos, along with 24 Category C photographs and seven Category C videos.
These images depicted minors in sexually explicit situations, with some involving children as young as three years old.
Prosecuting barrister Sharon Bahia explained that Buckle’s devices also showed evidence of sharing these illicit images via messaging platforms, notably Kik.
The evidence included three prohibited images, one of which depicted a child with no clothes alongside a computer-generated adult male.
During police interviews, Buckle claimed that he had sent messages but insisted they were not indecent and believed the children in the images were over 18.
He also stated that he was a scout leader and denied ownership of the devices, claiming that the phone was not truly his.
Additionally, Buckle admitted to viewing adult pornography but explained his reaction to the images as a fear of being caught.
Further revelations emerged from his messages, in which Buckle boasted about having had sexual relations with a 13-year-old when he was much younger.
He also shared images and videos with others, indicating a pattern of behavior and a disturbing level of engagement with these illegal materials.
Judge Nicholas Cartwright delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes.
He stated that the images depicted actual sexual assaults and that Buckle’s online conversations were boastful, revealing a disturbing attitude towards the offences.
The judge highlighted the profound and lasting impact on the victims, noting that they would carry the trauma of knowing their abuse was recorded and shared for the rest of their lives.
The judge remarked, “This was not an exchange of images for shock value, or to let someone else know how ghastly they were.
You thought you were satisfying their wish for sexual purposes.” He further explained that the victims would endure psychological harm and that the recordings would serve as a constant reminder of their suffering, a burden they would carry forever.
Buckle, residing on Maidstone Close, Newton Farm, was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
In addition to his incarceration, he was ordered to pay a surcharge as part of his punishment.
