DAVID BROWN FROM MONKTON AND PRESTWICK ESCAPES PRISON AFTER HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Monkton and Prestwick, David Brown, aged 36, was convicted of heinous crimes involving the exploitation and sexual abuse of young girls. The incidents, which spanned over several months, revealed a pattern of sinister behavior that included forcing children as young as 10 and 11 to watch explicit videos and engaging in inappropriate conduct during private encounters.Brown’s criminal activities came to light in July 2017, when he was found guilty of four separate charges related to causing young girls to view sexual images intentionally. The court heard that his actions were not only deliberate but also carried out in a manner that was both serious and deeply disturbing. A mother of one of the victims recounted the emotional toll on her daughter, who has been plagued by nightmares of being raped, illustrating the profound impact of Brown’s misconduct.
During the sentencing hearing, Brown appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court but chose to leave the courtroom without comment after the verdict was delivered. Despite the severity of his crimes, he was handed a sentence that included 18 months of supervised release and registration on the sex offenders’ register for the same duration. This measure aims to monitor his activities and prevent further harm to the community.
Depute fiscal Stephen McLean provided detailed accounts of Brown’s misconduct, revealing that in February, Brown was found semi-naked while alone with the children at an address in South Ayrshire. The court was told that he engaged in a game of tag with the children in the dark at 3 a.m., during which he accessed online pornography and showed explicit videos to the young girls, aged 10 and 11. The court heard that two of the victims bravely testified about their experiences, having first confided in a school teacher. Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart expressed her belief in the girls’ testimonies, stating, “I believed what they said and I could rely on what they said.”
Further allegations included Brown making sexual remarks to girls aged 10 and 11, adding to the gravity of his misconduct. The court also learned that Brown had used popular adult websites such as Hamster and YouTube to access explicit content, which he then showed to the children. Brown denied all six charges brought against him, but the evidence presented was compelling enough for the court to find him guilty of causing two girls to watch sexual videos overnight between February 3 and 4, and again on the following night.
One of the victims, aged 11, described how Brown laughed when she asked him to turn off the film, which displayed indecent images and vulgar language. Her account was supported by another girl, who said the scenes were inappropriate for children. The court was also told that Brown made sexual remarks to two of the girls, although these charges were ultimately not proven. Sheriff Mactaggart emphasized her reliance on the girls’ testimonies, underscoring the seriousness of the case.
As the proceedings concluded, Brown’s sentencing was scheduled for later in the month, with the court considering the full extent of his actions and the impact on his young victims. The case has left a lasting scar on the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need to protect vulnerable children from predators like David Brown.
