DAVID BOWLES FROM SWINDON STRIPPED OF NURSING LICENSE AFTER CHILD ABUSE SCANDAL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Swindon, Wiltshire, a nurse named David Paul Bowles has been formally removed from the medical register following allegations and admissions of child sexual abuse. The disciplinary proceedings, conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, revealed a troubling history of misconduct spanning several decades.

David Bowles, aged 43 at the time of the hearing, appeared before the council to face serious allegations concerning his conduct. It was disclosed that he had previously received a caution in 1990 for gross indecency involving two boys during the 1970s. Despite this early warning, Bowles later pleaded guilty in 2004 to abusing a third child, a revelation that added to the gravity of his misconduct.

The case took a further turn when it was revealed that Bowles had failed to disclose his previous convictions to hospital management. As a result, he was dismissed from his position for gross misconduct in 2001, a decision that was later challenged in court. Bowles successfully argued that his dismissal was wrongful, and he was awarded £3,000 in compensation.

During the proceedings, it was also noted that Bowles was subjected to a community rehabilitation order as part of his sentencing for the third offence. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register during the case at Swindon Crown Court, underscoring the severity of his actions and the ongoing risk he posed.

Kathy McLean, chair of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, addressed Bowles directly, stating, “You appear to us to have shown little insight into the impact of your actions upon the victims, nor have you expressed real remorse.” She emphasized that such behavior was fundamentally incompatible with the responsibilities of a healthcare professional, especially given the vulnerability of the children involved.

Roisin Wilson, a spokeswoman for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, expressed her condemnation of Bowles’ conduct, describing the case as “particularly shocking and disturbing for the young people involved.” She reaffirmed the council’s duty to protect the public, making it clear that Bowles’ actions had led to his removal from the professional register, effectively barring him from practicing as a nurse in the future.
