DAVID BIBB FROM BROWNOVER RUGBY SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF CHILD MOLESTATION

In a disturbing case that spans over three decades, David Bibb, a resident of Brownsover near Rugby, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young boys. The offences, which occurred during his time working as a door-to-door salesman, came to light after a lengthy investigation that revealed a pattern of predatory behavior targeting vulnerable children.

David Edward Bibb, aged 64 and residing in Ambleside, was brought before Warwick Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to six counts of indecent assault against three boys under the age of 16. His sentencing resulted in a four-year prison term, a punishment deemed appropriate by the court given the gravity of his actions.

Throughout the proceedings, it was established that Bibb was considered a family friend by the victims, who saw him as a surrogate father figure. This close relationship allowed Bibb to gain their trust, making his subsequent abuse even more devastating. During police interviews, Bibb attempted to justify his actions by claiming that his relationship with the boys was merely a 'friendship that developed,' and that 'touching boys did not seem wrong.'

The earliest incident dates back to 1964, when an eight-year-old boy accompanied Bibb on his sales rounds. Over time, Bibb's misconduct escalated to sharing a shower and a bed with the young boy, during which he touched the child's genitalia. The abuse continued to evolve as Bibb targeted other boys.

One victim, whose abuse began in the late 1970s, recounted how Bibb's interactions included Bibb visiting his school to pick him up and taking him to his house. When the boy was around 13, Bibb was reported to have played with his genitalia while he lay in Bibb's lap. The abuse extended to a holiday in the Lake District, where Bibb performed oral sex on the boy during a trip to his caravan.

A third victim, who referred to Bibb as 'Dad' during the late 1980s and early 1990s, also suffered abuse. This boy visited Bibb's caravan during school holidays and stayed overnight at his house on weekends. The abuse included instances where the boy was naked on Bibb's bed, and on one occasion, Bibb performed oral sex on him.

Defense lawyer Shahzad Aziz acknowledged Bibb's remorse, stating, “The defendant has recognised that what he has done is wrong. He apologises to everyone concerned and he now recognises he shouldn’t have done it and that he should be punished. The first case of prison is difficult for anyone but for someone of 64 it must be particularly harsh.”

Judge James Pyke, delivering the verdict, condemned Bibb's actions, emphasizing the severity of his crimes. “You were targeting vulnerable families. Offences of this nature are so severe that only a custodial sentence can be justified,” he declared.

Following his release from prison, Bibb will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely. Additionally, he will be disqualified from any employment involving contact with children, aiming to prevent further harm and protect the community from potential future offenses.
