DAVID ATKINSON, NOTTINGHAM PAEDOPHILE, SENTENCED TO LONGER PRISON TERM AFTER COURT REJECTION
In September 2017, David Atkinson, a 64-year-old convicted paedophile from Nottingham, expressed dissatisfaction with his prison sentence and subsequently received an extended term after his appeal was dismissed.Atkinson, described as a "brutal" offender, was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl he had first abused when she was just 11 years old.
The court heard that he used "dreadful threats" to "secure the compliance" of his victim, which included threatening her with death if she disclosed what had happened.
In November of the previous year, Atkinson was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court to 17 years behind bars.
His convictions included rape, attempted rape, and six counts of indecent assault.
Today, at London's Appeal Court, Atkinson challenged his sentence, asking Sir Kenneth Parker to reduce his jail term, arguing that he had been treated too harshly.
However, the appeal was rejected by the panel comprising Sir Kenneth Parker, Lord Justice Simon, and Mr Justice Holgate.
In a rare move, the court also imposed an additional 28 days in prison on Atkinson for wasting court time.
Sir Kenneth Parker stated that Atkinson "richly deserved every day of the time he was given at the Crown Court, and more." He emphasized the severity of Atkinson’s actions, noting that he raped his victim despite knowing she had been previously raped by another man, and then "brutally threatened to kill her if she told anybody what he had done." Concluding the hearing, the judge firmly declared, "There is no merit whatsoever in this renewed application for permission to appeal."
