DAVID ANDREWS SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN WELLESBOURNE AND WARWICKSHIRE

A man named David Andrews, previously employed as an ambulance technician, has been handed a severe prison sentence of 25 years after being found guilty of multiple heinous child sex offences. Andrews, aged 36 and without a fixed address, formerly resided in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire. His criminal activities came to light after a thorough police investigation into allegations of sexual assault and exploitation involving a minor.

Andrews pleaded guilty in February to a series of serious charges, which included the sexual assault and attempted rape of a child under the age of 13. In addition, he admitted to taking indecent photographs of a minor, further compounding the severity of his crimes. The police inquiry revealed that Andrews had taken at least one such photograph while he was on duty as an ambulance technician with the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS). The investigation uncovered that these disturbing images were captured in the Northamptonshire area, where Andrews was working at the time.

Following the initial allegations of sexual assault, Andrews was promptly arrested in December. During the subsequent investigation, authorities discovered a trove of illicit material on his mobile phone, including nearly 7,000 indecent images. Of these, 765 were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse and exploitation. The evidence was overwhelming and played a significant role in the court’s decision.

In response to the allegations, Andrews was suspended from his role as an ambulance technician when the accusations first emerged. His employment was eventually terminated last month, following his guilty plea and the mounting evidence against him. The case was heard at Worcester Crown Court, where the judge sentenced Andrews to 25 years in prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Arrowsmith described the case as “a sickening case involving offences of the utmost seriousness,” emphasizing the gravity of Andrews’ actions. Keeley Sheldon, the director of quality at EMAS, expressed their profound dismay and condemnation of Andrews’ conduct. She stated, “We are appalled by this conduct, committed by someone while in a position of trust. Patient safety is our highest priority. Our thoughts are with those affected by these offences.” The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and maintaining strict oversight of those in caregiving roles.
