DARYL DAFFIN AND RAYMOND WILLIAMS SHOCKING CHILD PORN CASES IN WILTSHIRE AND WARMINSTER

In a significant development in the ongoing fight against child exploitation and indecency, two men from Wiltshire, Daryl Patrick Daffin and Raymond Christopher John Williams, have admitted to serious charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children, as well as possessing extreme and obscene material involving animals. The cases were heard at Salisbury Magistrates Court, where both individuals faced the consequences of their actions.

On Friday, February 11, 2022, Raymond Williams, aged 44 and residing on Cobbett Place in Warminster, pleaded guilty to five separate charges. His offenses included the production of indecent photographs of a child, with three of these charges specifically relating to the creation of such images between February 2019 and November 2020. These images were categorized under categories A, B, and C, indicating varying degrees of severity and explicitness. Williams also admitted to possessing five pornographic images that depicted, in a highly explicit and realistic manner, acts of intercourse involving animals, specifically a dog and a fish. These images were deemed grossly offensive and obscene, with the court noting that a reasonable observer would believe the depicted animals and persons to be real. Additionally, Williams faced a charge for possessing a prohibited image of a child on June 30, 2019. All these offenses took place within the town of Warminster.

Meanwhile, Daryl Daffin, aged 57 and living in Ushers Court, Trowbridge, also pleaded guilty to multiple charges. His offenses spanned from November 2015 to May 2021 and included the creation of indecent images of children, both still and moving, across categories A, B, and C. Daffin was also found in possession of a prohibited still image of a child, dated May 25, 2021. On the same day, he was caught with 14 moving images depicting acts of intercourse or oral sex involving an unknown live animal, which he possessed unlawfully. Furthermore, Daffin was found to have a laptop and three USB sticks that he failed to make available for police inspection, violating a previous sexual offences prevention order issued by Salisbury Crown Court. All these criminal activities occurred in Trowbridge.

Both men have been released on unconditional bail and are scheduled to appear before Salisbury Crown Court for sentencing on March 11. Prior to their sentencing, they are required to report to police stations within three days, provide regular addresses, and notify authorities if they plan to stay with anyone under the age of 18. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the proliferation of child exploitation and obscene material, especially involving vulnerable minors and animals.

In a separate but related legal matter, Daffin's past crimes have been subject to judicial review. In December 2012, judges refused to impose a life sentence on Daffin, who had previously been convicted of 22 counts of sexual assault, assault by penetration, and possession of indecent images of children. Daffin, then 48, was sentenced to five and a half years at Salisbury Crown Court. His case was brought before London's Appeal Court, where Solicitor-General Edward Garnier QC's lawyers argued that the sentence was unduly lenient given the severity of his crimes and the danger he posed to the public. They contended that Daffin's actions warranted an indefinite sentence, similar to a life term, to ensure he remains incarcerated until deemed safe for release.

Lady Justice Rafferty acknowledged the repeated acts of abuse committed by Daffin, including filming himself during the assaults and keeping a diary of his exploits. The court also noted that Daffin had amassed approximately 30,000 images of child pornography from the internet, illustrating the extent of his depravity. Despite recognizing the gravity of his offenses and their profound impact on his victim, the judges ultimately decided not to extend his sentence to life imprisonment. They emphasized that, although some might argue for a more severe punishment, they were not persuaded that the existing sentence was unduly lenient, and Daffin remains subject to the legal restrictions and monitoring imposed by his previous convictions.
