DARREN TRIPCONEY FROM HAYLE CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL AND BREACHING COURT ORDERS

In May 2019, Darren Tripconey, a 46-year-old man residing on Green Parc Road in Hayle, faced serious allegations and subsequent sentencing related to his possession and distribution of child abuse images. The case revealed disturbing details about his ongoing criminal behavior, which included viewing and sharing highly illegal material involving minors.

According to court reports, police officers visited Tripconey’s residence in November 2017 after receiving intelligence that led them to suspect his involvement in child exploitation activities. During the visit, officers were informed that Tripconey had previously requested access to a neighbor’s Wi-Fi network, raising suspicions about his attempts to conceal his online activities. A search of his home yielded a tablet, a notepad, and a mobile phone, with Tripconey himself admitting, “it’s me, I’ve lapsed again,” when questioned.

Further examination of the devices uncovered a collection of indecent images and videos of children, categorized across all three levels of severity—Category A, B, and C. The police seized these devices for forensic analysis, which confirmed the presence of highly disturbing material. In April 2019, authorities returned to Tripconey’s home and confiscated a USB stick connected to his television, which contained a Category C image, further evidencing his ongoing engagement with illegal content.

Investigations revealed that Tripconey had been using his Xbox gaming console to access the internet since 2010, breaching the terms of a Sexual Offending Prevention Order previously imposed on him. This breach was compounded by evidence of online chats with individuals sharing similar perversions, during which he sent multiple photographs. The court was told that some of the footage involved the anal and oral rape of children as young as six years old, with one clip showing a child vomiting during the assault.

Judge Robert Linford, presiding over the case, condemned Tripconey’s actions, stating, “You were made subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order in 2009 and very soon after set about breaking it. You have an appalling record for accessing, downloading and now distributing this material and you are an ingrained pervert.” The judge’s remarks underscored the severity of Tripconey’s repeated violations and the disturbing nature of his offenses.

It was also revealed that in August 2009, Tripconey, then 37, had been convicted of possessing nearly 3,000 indecent images of children. During that case at Truro Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to 13 counts of making indecent photographs, five counts of distributing such images, and three counts of possession. The images ranged from low to high severity, with some depicting children under 16. His previous conviction followed an earlier incident in 2001, where he was found with 18,400 pornographic images, leading to a community rehabilitation order and a five-year registration as a sex offender.

Throughout the proceedings, Tripconey’s defense argued that he was a man of previously good character, and the cases were described as a tragedy for his family. Nonetheless, the court’s findings highlighted a pattern of disturbing behavior, with authorities emphasizing the need for strict sentencing given the gravity of his offenses and the danger posed to children.
