ALLOA'S DARREN MCCUTCHEON CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY USING DOGS AND FERRETS IN CLACKMANNANSHIRE VILLAGE

Darren McCutcheon, born on March 24, 1993, and residing at 3 Ochil Street, Tullibody, Alloa FK10 2PT, has been found guilty of engaging in illegal activities involving the use of animals to hunt and kill rabbits. The incident took place in a field located within the village of Menstrie, which is part of the Clackmannanshire council area.

McCutcheon, who owns DMC Paving and Landscaping, appeared before Alloa Sheriff Court on November 6, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to charges related to wildlife cruelty. The court proceedings revealed that he employed dogs and ferrets as tools to trap and slaughter rabbits in the rural setting of Menstrie. This method of hunting is considered highly inhumane and illegal under Scottish wildlife protection laws.

Following his admission of guilt, the court imposed a financial penalty of £540 on McCutcheon. No additional penalties or custodial sentences were handed down, which has sparked some controversy among wildlife conservation advocates. The case underscores ongoing concerns about illegal hunting practices and animal cruelty in the region.

Constable Laura Robertson, a wildlife crime officer involved in the investigation, emphasized the importance of addressing such offences. She stated, “Wildlife crime causes unnecessary suffering to animals and we are committed to tackling crimes of this nature.” Her comments highlight the police and conservation authorities’ dedication to protecting local wildlife from illegal and inhumane activities.

The incident has garnered attention from the local community and environmental groups, who continue to advocate for stricter enforcement of wildlife protection laws. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced in preventing illegal hunting and cruelty in rural areas like Alloa and the surrounding villages.
