June 2015 A Maryport man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for sexual activity with a child. Darren McCarron, 31, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today following the offence committed against two girls in December 2014. He will be subject to an indefinite sexual offender prevention order and has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register. April 2015 Pervert who admitted sexually abusing two young girls told he faces a substantial jail sentence Darren McCarron, 31, was charged with seven child sex offences but at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer accepted his guilty pleas to just three of those allegations. The prosecutor in court said it would not be in the public interest to pursue the charges McCarron denies. McCarron, of Coronation Street, Maryport, admitted two counts of sexual activity with one girl and a third similar offence, a count of sexual assault, against another young girl. The defendant committed all the offences he admitted in November and December of last year, the court heard. Neither of the victims he molested can be named for legal reasons. Timothy Brennand, prosecuting, said that the circumstances surrounding the remaining allegations meant it would not be in the public interest to have a trial. Those alleged offences were all said to have been committed by McCarron on dates between November 1 and December 14 last year. Recorder Simon Medland QC ordered that the Probation Service should now prepare background reports on the defendant, who will remain remanded in custody until the date of his sentence. He told McCarron: “The most likely outcome of this is a substantial sentence of imprisonment.” The defendant, who in court spoke only to confirm his name and to enter his pleas, will be sentenced on June 5 at Carlisle Crown Court.
