MARYPORT MAN JAILED AFTER JURY CONVICTS HIM OF SEXUALLY ABUSING GIRL
A FIVE-year jail sentence has been handed to a 22-year-old Maryport man who was convicted after a trial of sexually abusing a young girl.
The defendant, from Lonsdale Terrace, Maryport, denied committing any offences against the girl but was convicted after a week-long trial at Carlisle Crown Court.
The jury convicted him of eight sexual offences after hearing evidence.
Jordan Meek continues to deny any sexual offending, though he did plead guilty to possessing the class B drug cannabis with intent to supply.
Detective Constable Gail Penman from Cumbria Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit commented, “Meek is a dangerous offender who subjected the victim to multiple assaults over a number of years.” The judge praised the victim's courage during the sentencing.
