June 1998 Sex attacker jailed for ten years A Birmingham man who carried out a catalogue of sexual abuse against young girls has been jailed for ten years. Darren Kenton was 14 when he raped one of his victims, Birmingham Crown Court was told. Kenton (27), formerly of Kings Norton, pleaded guilty to a charge of rape, seven charges of indecent assault and one charge of indecency with a child. In passing sentence, Judge Derek Stanley said Kenton had regularly abused five girls over a period of ten to 15 years. He said the assaults carried out on one victim were particularly serious and involved him wrapping her head in tissue paper so she could not see what he was doing. Judge Stanley said Kenton had also given the girl money and told her not to tell anyone what had happened. He said the defendant was “insatiable in his predatory targeting of young girls”. Mr Jonathan Gosling, defending, said Kenton accepted he remained a risk to young girls and knew that he needed treatment.
