DARREN HENDRY SENTENCED IN ALDERSHOT FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE AND STRANGULATION
A man identified as Darren Hendry has been handed a significant prison sentence following his conviction on multiple serious charges related to an incident that occurred in Aldershot. The court proceedings, which took place at Southampton Crown Court, culminated in Hendry being sentenced to seven years behind bars. Additionally, he will serve an extra five years on licence once released, ensuring close supervision for a substantial period.Hendry, aged 35 and residing on Denmark Street in Aldershot, appeared before the court on Friday, 27 September. The court also imposed a ten-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim and mandated that Hendry remain a registered sex offender for the rest of his life, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
The case centered around an incident in December 2023, during which Hendry was accused of attempting to commit a sexual assault on a woman in her 30s at an address within Aldershot. According to court reports, the woman attempted to leave the premises when the assault occurred. However, Hendry reportedly assaulted her further, grabbing her by the ribs and causing her to struggle for breath. Despite this, the woman managed to fight off Hendry and escaped the scene at approximately 5 a.m., seeking medical assistance at Frimley Park Hospital.
Following his arrest, Hendry faced multiple charges. He admitted to criminal damage and harassment but denied several other serious allegations, including two counts of rape, two counts of strangulation, attempted rape, and three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm. The court examined the evidence and heard arguments regarding these allegations.
In a verdict that reflected the evidence presented, Hendry was found not guilty of two counts of rape, one count of strangulation, and two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm. These particular incidents were alleged to have taken place in Brighton and Fleet, outside the primary incident in Aldershot. However, the court convicted Hendry on one count of attempted rape, one count of strangulation, and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm. These convictions are the basis for his seven-year prison sentence and the accompanying legal restrictions, including the lifelong sex offender registration and restraining order.
