BESTWOOD ARSONIST TELLS POLICE HE THINKS OF 'MURDERING YOUNG GIRLS' AFTER FIRE FORCES EVACUATION
A suicidal arsonist told police he had "very strong" thoughts of kidnapping, molesting and murdering young girls" after a fire which led to mass evacuation.
A court heard Darren Edwards made the disturbing comments as he was jailed for three years and one month for arson being reckless.
Edwards, 48, of Belconnnen Road, Living on the middle floor of a three-storey block of flats next to a building with more than 20 flats, he started the fire at about 3am using white spirit and a lighter.
The fire caused over £5,200 damage and led to the evacuation of an unknown number of residents on August 21, 2021.
The judge noted that Edwards had no relevant previous convictions, and the court set aside his comments to police, indicating possible civil proceedings or a future application for a sexual harm prevention order.
Detective Inspector Ruby Burrow emphasized the risk posed and praised the quick response of the fire service.
