HOLLOWAY MAN GIVEN LIFE FOR MOTHER’S FATAL ASSAULT
Darren Constant has been handed a life sentence with a minimum term of nine years and four months after pleading guilty to manslaughter for the killing of his mother, Judy Constant.The 59-year-old woman died at her home in Holloway, north London, following an assault by her son on July 3, 2018.
Court evidence showed that Darren’s actions were fueled by rage, largely stemming from his unsuccessful efforts to persuade his ex-girlfriend, Ivana Bilicova, to reunite with him.
At the time of sentencing, Darren was 39 years old.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC highlighted that Judy’s death was preceded by a history of violence and abuse committed by her son.
Records indicated that in the days before the attack, Darren had made 40 attempts to contact Ms Bilicova and had also physically assaulted multiple former partners.
When he was unable to reach her, he directed his hostility toward his mother, resulting in fatal injuries.
Medical reports confirmed that Judy had suffered several injuries to her head, face, and abdomen.
Although she initially declined hospital treatment, claiming her injuries came from a fall down stairs, she was found dead the following evening.
The post-mortem attributed her death to multiple factors, including blunt-force trauma.
Darren expressed remorse, feeling ashamed of his conduct, and was reported to have been under the influence of alcohol and steroids during the incident.
Judy’s sister Courtney described her life as 'misery' caused by Darren’s actions, while another sister noted Judy had 'protected Darren until the very end,' despite her suffering.
The court emphasized the profound pain experienced by Judy’s family, stating that no sentence could truly compensate for their loss.
