MAN SENTENCED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY, VIOLENCE, AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A man has received a prison sentence after admitting to multiple crimes in Lowestoft, including the death or severe injury of two cats.Daniel Williams, aged 30 and without a fixed address, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison by Norwich Crown Court on 26 April.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to several charges, which included intentionally suffocating animals (14 months), threatening to share private sexual images with the intent to cause distress (2 months, concurrent), sending threatening electronic messages (first count: 10 months, second: 6 months, consecutive), damaging property (each count: 1 month, concurrent), and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal (24 months, consecutive, and 24 months, concurrent).
In 2022, Williams committed various offences, such as breaking into a property in Lowestoft and causing property damage, before killing a pet cat and seriously injuring another, which led to the latter being euthanised by a veterinarian.
His actions also included smashing windows of a local business and sending threatening messages that included threats to assault someone with a baseball bat.
In addition to the 54-month prison term, Williams was banned from owning or caring for animals for the next ten years under Section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act.
He was also subjected to a ten-year restraining order preventing contact with certain individuals.
