DANIEL WHITE, SEX OFFENDER FROM CHICHESTER AND KIRDFORD, GOES ON THE RUN IN SUSSEX

In April 2015, authorities in Sussex found themselves in a tense and urgent situation involving Daniel White, a convicted sex offender with ties to the towns of Chichester and Kirdford. White, aged 31 at the time, was originally sentenced to three years in prison in September 2013 after being convicted at Hove Crown Court for engaging in sexual activity with a girl known to him in Chichester. The victim was only 14 years old when the sexual relationship began, with White, then 27, having initiated the contact. During the trial, it was revealed that White had instructed the girl to keep their relationship secret, which persisted for nearly fourteen months. The court heard compelling evidence, leading to a unanimous guilty verdict and a subsequent three-year prison sentence.

Following his conviction, White was placed on the sex offenders’ register and was required to register as a sex offender indefinitely upon his release. The court also issued a sexual offences prevention order, which restricted his access to young girls and women and prohibited further contact with the victim. At the time of his trial, White resided in School Court, Kirdford, a village in West Sussex. His connections to the local area, including Selsey and Chichester, were well known to police and the community.

However, in April 2015, Sussex Police announced that White was no longer in custody and was believed to have gone on the run. The authorities stated that they had lost track of his whereabouts and were actively seeking to recall him to prison. An appeal was launched across local media, including the Observer’s website, urging the public to assist in locating him. White was described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build, short spiky brown hair, and a distinctive scar on his right cheek.

Sussex Police confirmed that White was believed to be in the Portsmouth area after his arrest there, but his current location remained unknown. The police spokesperson emphasized that White, known locally as Danny, posed a risk to the community and urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact them immediately. Authorities stressed the importance of community vigilance, especially given White’s history and the restrictions placed upon him. The case underscored ongoing efforts by Sussex Police to monitor and supervise sex offenders, particularly those with a history of offenses involving minors. The community was reminded that it is a criminal offense to publish the identity of the victim, who is granted lifelong anonymity, and that the police would continue to take all necessary measures to ensure public safety and bring White back into custody.
