HUDDERSFIELD MAN JAILED FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON PARTNER
Daniel Spencer, a 32-year-old man with a criminal record that includes violations of non-molestation orders and a history of abusive conduct toward partners, has received a four-year prison sentence for attacking his partner twice within a short span. The court heard that these incidents took place in May and June of the previous year.
Spencer pleaded guilty to two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Laura McBride outlined that Spencer, from Kirkgate, Huddersfield, engaged in an argument with his partner at an address in Sowerby Bridge, during which he grabbed her by the neck and strangled her to the point of fainting.
After releasing her, she felt she was going to die because she couldn't breathe.
The assault persisted as he kicked her legs out from under her, making her hit her head on some dumbbells.
Fortunately, she managed to call her father, who called the police.
When officers arrived, Spencer was aggressive and angry but was released on bail with conditions to avoid contact with the victim.
A few weeks later, the pair went on a caravan trip to Skegness, where Spencer allegedly attempted to bite her on the cheek during another confrontation at a nightclub.
The woman reported suffering from anxiety, nightmares, and a continual feeling of being on edge.
Having been remanded in custody since August the previous year, Spencer’s previous convictions include breaches of non-molestation orders in 2009 and 2015, but this marked his first for assault.
His lawyer stated that Spencer intended to relocate after his release and had no plans for reconciliation, showing remorse for his conduct.
The court imposed a three-year sentence for the incident involving strangulation and a further year for the assault committed while on bail.
Additionally, an indefinite restraining order was issued, barring Spencer from any form of contact with the complainant.
