DANIEL SHAW FROM BURSTLEM SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN CONGLETON
In a case that has shocked the local community, Daniel Shaw, a 32-year-old man from Lawton Street, Burslem, has been sentenced to over five years in prison for the serious crime of rape that occurred in Congleton during 2021.The incident came to light after the victim reported the assault to police in April 2022. According to court records, the woman had been out in Congleton in December 2021 when the assault took place. She managed to record the incident on her mobile phone, a crucial piece of evidence that played a significant role in Shaw's conviction.
Following her report, law enforcement officers swiftly acted on the information. Shaw was arrested on April 9, 2022, on suspicion of rape. During police interviews, Shaw acknowledged that the footage was indeed of him, but he claimed to have no memory of the events, citing intoxication as a factor. Despite his denial of the rape, the evidence against him was compelling.
Shaw's trial at Chester Crown Court lasted six days, culminating in a guilty verdict on June 26. The court found sufficient evidence to convict him of the charge of rape, leading to his sentencing on Monday, August 7. The judge handed down a sentence of five years and six months in prison.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Shaw was subjected to a lifelong restraining order, prohibiting any contact with the victim. Furthermore, he was ordered to comply with notification requirements for life, a measure designed to monitor sex offenders and prevent further harm. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Congleton and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and combat sexual violence.
