DANIEL RUSSELL SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC CHILD RAPE IN GREAT YARMOUTH AND NORWICH

A man identified as Daniel Russell has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young girl in the area of Great Yarmouth. The 38-year-old was convicted on multiple counts, including the rape of a six-year-old girl, causing her to witness a sexual act, and producing indecent images of children. The court heard that Russell had threatened the young victim, telling her that he would kill the foals of a horse she cared about if she did not comply with his demands, adding a disturbing layer to his manipulative tactics.

Judge David Pugh delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the profound emotional and psychological impact the crimes had on both the victim and her mother. He described Russell’s actions as exploiting a vulnerable situation, stating, “You found a lever to satisfy your sexual urges.” The judge further expressed concern about Russell’s potential danger to children in the future, highlighting the seriousness of his offenses.

The Norwich Crown Court detailed how, between 2016 and 2021, Russell would take the young girl into train toilet cubicles during journeys and subject her to sexual assault. During these incidents, he would also show her pornography, further traumatizing her. The court was presented with a victim statement from the girl’s mother, read aloud by prosecution barrister Stephen Spence, who explained that the sexual offenses had inflicted significant emotional distress on the child. The mother expressed fears that her daughter might grow up believing such behavior was normal, underscoring the long-term psychological damage caused by Russell’s actions. Mr. Spence noted that the full extent of the long-term impact remains uncertain.

Throughout the proceedings, Russell appeared via video link, only speaking to confirm his identity. His defense attorney, Andrew Oliver, acknowledged that Russell had admitted to the crimes and expressed remorse, stating that his client recognizes the harm he has caused. Despite this, the court sentenced Russell to 18 years in prison, with a requirement that he serve at least two-thirds of the sentence before being eligible for parole. Additionally, if released, he will be subject to a six-year license period, during which he will be monitored to prevent further offenses.
